Mama Mia!
The beauty of a blog is the freedom to write about whatever inspires in the moment. With the changing season, I considered topics like grilling or festive celebrations, but ultimately, with Mother’s Day approaching, my thoughts turned homeward. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
My mother was an exceptional cook—no small feat for an Irish woman who married into an Italian family. Her meals went far beyond simple comfort food. She had a natural instinct for flavor, seasoning, and presentation long before celebrity chefs and cooking shows became mainstream. As a child, I would sit nearby while she watched cooking programs, absorbing her excitement and inspiration as she planned meals for future occasions.
She was also a wonderful hostess who loved entertaining. Her cocktail parties were especially memorable. While I didn’t partake in the drinks, I certainly enjoyed the delicious small bites—especially her famous mini meatballs. I would retreat to my room with a plate of treats and a Shirley Temple in hand, enjoying my own quiet celebration while the sounds of laughter and conversation filled the house.
That love of entertaining stayed with me. Today, I have the pleasure of hosting guests at the Castello during the Royal Pairing experience. In such a beautiful setting, I often find myself imagining my mother watching with pride.
Happy Mother’s Day.
Salud.
